Vintage Quad equipment.

As I know nothing about this, so would someone tell me why someone would pay this sort of money?

Hello Bob,

I don't know why but a lot of these 70's, 80's amplifiers sell for good money. A friend of mine who buys hifi off of Ebay and at boot fairs is always looking for for this type of gear.
Quad and Leak always sold well when they were first manufactured.

Hi Alan,

I noticed the Quad as I'd been looking on eBay for something to replace my 1972 Philips 790 which has lost a channel on the amplifier. It's only lasted 38 years. A local hifi shop wanted £35 to just give it "a coat of looking at."

So I bought this for £33 as it's a respected make and the din plugs for all the connections on my Philips, will fit it.



I'm hoping the courier delivers it in one piece.

That amp looks ok and a lot cheaper than the Quad.
It should be ok if well packed.

Well, it arrived by courier this morning having only been sent yesterday and I was glad that it had been carefully packed.

I had it up and going within minutes. Lots of "bells and whistles," more sockets and push buttons on the back and everything works fine, so I'm well pleased. Thirty-three quid well spent.The radio didn't give perfect reception using the FM socket, but I found a TV aerial socket as one of the options for aerials so I took off the Philips aerial plug attched a spare TV aerial connector and used that.
Perfect!

That is 1950s equipment.

Quad always did make good equipment.

Maybe the buyer wanted the record compensator for pre-1962 recordings with nonstandard recording curves, as well as the fine amplifiers. Those are mono tube amps.
